Our mission is to empower individuals and families to transform their lives and strengthen their communities. We do this by offering a comprehensive array of services for children, youth, families and seniors. Our approach is respectful, holistic and strives to increase independence and self-sufficiency. We provide services in 5 San Antonio offices and 28 counties, in client homes, community locations and on more than 40 school campuses with a budget of just over 20 million last year. We serve more than 80,000 people through the dedicated efforts of staff who represent the community they serve and over 5,000 volunteers who share their time, talent and treasures. We build on the strength of individuals, and neighborhoods to address unmet needs; work collaboratively with other service providers and leverage our finite resources.
We were founded in 1903 when San Antonio was the largest city in Texas, had a booming economy, but still had challenges as some families were living on the streets and children were begging for food. Our founding fathers created what is now known as Family Service Association of San Antonio, Inc. Our services offered have changed to meet the evolving needs of families, but remained dedicated to innovative and cost-effective programming, strong fiscal accountability, partnerships and collaborations, and an abiding dedication to educational success and strong families. Throughout this century we helped found what is now known as United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, the local chapter of the American Red Cross and the city's senior program.
